Cortland Dahl, PhD, is a research scientist at the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. His work focuses on developing theoretical models of contemplative practice that draw on both scientific research and traditional phenomenological accounts of meditation. He is also involved in creating contemplative interventions that include a diverse range of practices so that these practices might be studied and better understood. Cortland’s background is eclectic. Prior to his graduate work at UW-Madison, he received a Master’s Degree in Buddhist Studies and spent eight years living in Tibetan refugee settlements in India and Nepal. He is also an active author and translator. In addition to his scientific publications, he has published twelve volumes of translations of classic Tibetan works on Buddhist philosophy and meditation. He currently lives with his wife and son in Madison, Wisconsin.
